March was an “arranging” month for John. Although there were concerts with Emma Johnson in Leeds and Tunbridge Wells, most of John’s time was spent arranging and orchestrating for Joseph Calleja’s next album “Romantic Tenor”, Alisa Weilerstein’s recording with the Czech Philharmonic of music by Dvorak and an encore disc featuring Nicola Benedetti.
For the Calleja album, two tracks have already recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra under Stephen Mercurio – Cardillo’s “Core N’grato” and “La Callifa” by Morricone.
The Dvorak album incldes three arrangements with piano which have already been recorded in New York. Later in the year Alisa records the Cello Concerto in Prague and there are plans for another arrangement from John with the orchestra. More details to follow……
Following John’s successful collaboration with Nicola Benedetti in Gardel’s tango “Por una Cabessa” he has also arranged the Brahms Hungarian Dance no. 5 and Monti’s Czardas for the same combination (featuring the marvellous accordion playing of Ksenija Sidorova).
